Program Assessment under AUN-QA criteria of ASEAN University Network (AUN)

ASEAN University Network (AUN) is a non-profit organization, operating based on the voluntary spirit established in 1995 with 13 member universities of 7 countries. Vietnam has two official members joined this network since its first day of foundation as the National University of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City National University. Presently, AUN has all 30 members of the 10 countries in Southeast Asia (including the 04 new member universities as University of Mandalay - Myanmar, Can Tho University - Vietnam, University of Prince of Songkla Thailand, and University of Utara - Malaysia have been officially admitted in July 2013 in the 29th meeting of the AUN Board of Trustees (AUN-BOT) held in Yangon, Myanmar).

The operational objectives of AUN is to strengthen the cooperation between universities in the region, the academic exchanges, the research and training programs in the priority areas of the region, the cooperation and solidarity among scholars, educators and researchers within the member universities in the region, and to be an agency for policy direction of higher education in the Southeast Asia. In order to share the experience, to learn together and to strengthen the credibility and confidence in the higher education quality of the member universities, AUN founded the AUN-QA criteria (ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance) to assess the quality of higher education  training program on a voluntary basis.

As of May 2014, AUN has successfully conducted 28 actual quality assessments for 66 study programs of ASEAN universities including 64 undergraduate and 2 graduate programs (Master of Science Program in Petrochemical Technology of Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and Master of Arts in English Linguistics of Foreign Languages ​​University - VNU).

Moreover, from April to the end of September 2013, AUN in collaboration with six other partners of ASEAN and Europe within the framework of DIES ASEAN-QA Project - Phase I (including ASEAN Quality Assurance Network - AQAN, German Academic Exchange Service - DAAD, European Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education - ENQA, the Council of Rectors of German universities - HRK, the Southeast Asian MinisterofEducationOrganization &Regional Centre forHigher Educationand Development - SEAMEO RIHED and University of Potsdam) conducted the quality assessment for 23 programs of 22 universities from 9 countries in Southeast Asia. Can Tho University has 02 programs: Electrical Engineering Program and Agricultural Economics Program, assessed in this project.

To be certified and mastered the quality certificate which is valid for 4 years by AUN, the programs must achieve a minimum score of 4.0/7. Up to now, the assessed score of the programs in ASEAN ranges from 4.0 to 5.4. The highest score which the program achieved in the region is 5.4. According to the published results, Vietnam has 01 program scored 5.0 that is Bachelor of Science in Chemistry of University of Sciences, Vietnam National University of Hanoi.
